Vaquera began in 2013 as "fashion fan fiction," a creative outlet for founder Patric DiCaprio to explore his obsession with clothing. In 2016, Bryn Taubensee joined as co-creative director, and the brand has since evolved into a global force in partnership with Dover Street Market. Named after the Spanish word for cowgirl, a nickname given to Patric while washing dishes, Vaquera now represents a brand known for their playful critique of American fashion tropes that has become a distinctive and influential aesthetic. In the summer of 2025, the duo relocated from New York to Paris, ready to bring American nostalgia, kitsch, and Tumblr-era references into the heart of the city's traditional fashion scene.

Their designs have been showcased at renowned institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA PS1.
