Before Nihilistic Orbs was a record label it was a series of band nights at the Empress Hotel Melbourne, starting in late 2009.

Each show was recorded and dubbed onto a short run of cassettes by founder Shaun South, whose vision for the label came into focus in mid-2011 with the release of NO001 – Jonny Telaphone’s ‘Ceremony’ 7”.

Nihilistic Orbs operated first from a basement in Carlton, then from a warehouse in East Brunswick. Melbourne.

The label clocked nine releases in total, and ended after South’s passing in 2013.
